I make this dip several times a week often as part of a simple snack. You can make it sweet to pair with fruit or savory to pair with vegetables. Your call.

We usually pair it with apple or pear slices. I make a flower with thin apple slices, drizzle with peanut butter dip, sprinkle on chia seeds, hemp seeds, raisins, coconut. Little toppings can increase the nutrition profile and add an element of fun for some children. Another way I serve this dip is in a cute ramekin add the toppings on top and slices of fruit on the side.

It’s also a nice addition to a pancake or waffle breakfast or drizzled on oatmeal.

This is one of my non-recipe recipes, which I find to be the best kind when feeding young children and limited on time. Often we need to pull something out quickly during times when we may be running low on energy.

Depending on how thick or sweet you make this it can be a sauce, dip or pudding. Play with it. It’s yum. And like all non-recipes add bits of the different ingredients until you land on the combination you and your child like.

Peanut Butter Sauce, Dip, Pudding

2 good size spoonfuls natural, unsweetened peanut butter (try other nut butters if you want)
Unsweetened plant milk
2-3 tsp maple syrup or other liquid sweetener or date paste (optional)
Small splash of vanilla (optional)
Small pinch of sea salt (if the peanut butter is unsalted and if your plant milk is low salt)

Place your peanut butter in a small bowl. Stir in small amounts of milk at a time, stirring until smooth each time. If you add the milk slowly it’s easier to get a creamy texture. If you are adding a sweetener you can do this at any time. Start with a small amount and add until you feel like it has enough.

Note:
Smaller amounts of milk and more sweetener and vanilla will make a pudding. More milk makes a dip or sauce.
If you want to add a bit of mild hot sauce and maybe a bit of vinegar you can make a yummy sauce for fresh garden rolls or noodles. Let me know how it goes.
Topping ideas: dried fruit, chia or hemp seeds, ground flax, coconut, cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice.
